The Blakely family find themselves caught up in an age-old struggle between tradition and progress, family duty and personal desires, and trust and betrayal. Monroe invites the reader into the lives of the Blakelys where we bear. Although a good book, I found Sweetgrass more difficult to get through than other books by Mary Alice Monroe. The story was basically about a family in long-standing crisis. I found it a bit heavy with no lightness to offset the sadness.
